District 20 State Senator Norby Chabert (D-Houma) assumes a new leadership role in the Senate as the new Vice-Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee. The primary responsibilities of The Finance Committee include the appropriation of state funds, budgetary requirements and procedures, and expenditure of funds. Sen. Chabert says that assuming this role will allow him to better serve the people of his district and the entire state and that he is honored to have this opportunity.
"My district has not had a member on the finance committee since my father served on it in the mid-eighties," said Sen. Chabert. "To be only in my third year and to be named Vice-Chairman of the Senate's most influential committee, as well as maintain seats on Commerce, Judiciary B, and Natural Resources, is humbling and I look forward to serving."
Senate President John Alario also named Sen. Chabert as a member of the Senate Judiciary B, Commerce and Natural Resource Committees as well as a member of the Senate Select Committee on Coastal Restoration and Flood Control for the 2012-2016 term.
